The Firm
Alden Advisory was founded in 1999 on the idea that banks, insurers, and asset managers operate under a different logic than other businesses — and that most consultancies were applying generic transformation playbooks to institutions that needed something else entirely.
Origin
Richard Alden founded the firm after leading strategy engagements for major UK banks through the post-Barings, early Basel reform era. He'd watched large consultancies apply the same operating-model templates to a bank that they'd apply to a manufacturer or a retailer — and watched those engagements quietly fail to account for how regulated institutions actually make decisions under supervision.
That observation became the firm's founding thesis: financial services is a discipline with its own operating logic, not an industry vertical that generic transformation methodology can be layered onto. Every practice area the firm has built since — regulatory strategy, risk advisory, digital transformation — has been built to serve that thesis specifically, rather than adapted from broader consulting practice.

Where we work
Alden Advisory operates from a single office in the City of London, with engagement work carried out across UK and European financial centres. We've deliberately stayed a one-office firm — proximity to a single regulatory and client ecosystem has mattered more to us than geographic footprint.
