Margaret Osei joined Alden Advisory in 2003 and built the firm's Regulatory Strategy practice from its first cross-border engagement — advising a European retail bank through Basel II readiness.
Background
Margaret's approach to regulatory strategy is shaped by a simple observation from early in her career: firms that treat regulation as a compliance exercise are almost always reacting to it a cycle too late. Firms that treat it as a strategic signal — evidence of where supervisors expect the industry to move — tend to be building the operating model the regulation will eventually require, well before it's mandatory.
She has led regulatory strategy engagements across banking, insurance, and asset management, with particular depth in UK-EU regulatory divergence since the mid-2010s. She's known internally for insisting that every regulatory submission be read the way a supervisor would actually read it, not the way a legal team would prefer it to be read.
Margaret sits on the firm's internal governance committee and reviews the regulatory sections of every Transformation Framework™ case study before publication.
"Regulation is not a constraint you comply with. It's a signal about where the business is going to be forced to change anyway."
