Nina Kapoor joined Alden Advisory in 2007 and formalised the firm's risk governance advisory work into a standing practice during the 2008 financial crisis.
Background
Nina's practice is built around a distinction she draws early with every client: there's risk culture, and there's risk theatre. Risk theatre is committees that meet, papers that get noted, and controls that exist on paper but that nobody actually owns. Risk culture is when the people closest to a decision are also the people accountable for its consequences — and Nina has spent nearly two decades arguing that most institutions have far more of the former than the latter.
She led the formalisation of the firm's risk practice during the 2008 crisis, when several clients needed risk governance rebuilt under genuine pressure rather than as a planning exercise. That experience shaped her insistence that risk functions justify themselves by being useful, not just by being present.
Nina leads the firm's internal risk committee and is the final reviewer on every engagement involving regulatory enforcement exposure.
