The Decision Velocity Framework

A diagnostic for how fast a specific decision actually moves through an organisation, and where it stalls.

Overview

Most organisations can describe their formal decision-making process. Few can describe how long a specific, real decision actually took to move from identification to resolution last quarter — or where, precisely, it stalled along the way.

The Decision Velocity Framework is a diagnostic tool we use to trace a specific decision's actual path through an organisation, measure the time spent at each stage, and identify the point where authority and information genuinely converge — as distinct from the point the process chart says they should.

Identify the Decision

Select a specific, real decision from the recent past rather than a hypothetical one.

Trace the Path

Map every person and committee the decision actually passed through.

Measure Latency

Time how long the decision spent at each stage, not just the total elapsed time.

Locate the Bottleneck

Identify the stage consuming disproportionate time relative to its actual complexity.

Redesign Authority

Reassign decision rights to close the gap between the fastest and slowest comparable paths.
