Basel 3.1 UK Timeline Update

February 2025 — Alden Advisory

UK implementation timelines for the remaining Basel 3.1 elements continue to be refined, and firms — particularly mid-tier banks — are asking how much further planning certainty to expect before committing significant implementation resource.

Our view, consistent with our research on this topic, is that the direction of the reform is considerably more stable than the exact timeline, and firms waiting for full timeline certainty before beginning operating model work are likely to compress their implementation window unnecessarily.

We continue to advise clients to build capital allocation operating models around the reform's direction of travel now, treating residual timeline uncertainty as a planning risk to be managed, not a reason to defer preparation.

This briefing reflects Alden Advisory's general commentary on a developing regulatory topic and is not legal or regulatory advice. Firms should seek specific guidance for their own circumstances.
