Yuki Tanaka joined Alden Advisory in 2020 and works within Sarah Chen's Digital Transformation practice.
Background
Yuki's focus is the part of digital transformation that project plans tend to underweight: adoption. Her repeated finding, across core banking and claims digitisation engagements, is that digital adoption rarely fails at launch — it fails around month four, once the initial enthusiasm fades and a workaround becomes the new habit for users who found the new system marginally inconvenient.
She's developed much of the firm's internal thinking on change sequencing, arguing that change fatigue is usually a sequencing failure rather than a resourcing one — too many changes landing on the same team in too short a window, rather than too few resources to handle any single change.
"Adoption doesn't fail at launch. It fails in month four, when the workaround becomes the habit."
