Background

Elena's engagements tend to start after a merger or acquisition has already closed, when the operating consequences of combining two asset managers' investment processes and client-reporting functions become unavoidable. She's built a reputation for identifying, early, which parts of a target operating model are genuinely unresolved decision-rights questions and which are simply unfinished paperwork.

She argues that fee compression is rarely the real threat behind asset manager consolidation — the more common driver is that nobody clarified who owns the client relationship once two firms' coverage models overlap. Her recent work focuses on ESG disclosure operating models as reporting requirements tighten across UK and EU regimes.

"Consolidation isn't a size strategy. It's what happens when nobody clarified who owns the client relationship."
