How We Work

No ambiguity.
No surprises.
No shortcuts.

Four stages. Clear deliverables at every step. You always know where we are, what comes next, and what we need from you. This page explains exactly how a Quell Studio project works — from the first scorecard to the final handoff.

Digital Presence Scorecard & Fit Assessment
Before you commit anything — we show you exactly what is wrong
Pre-project · Free
What we do

When you reach out, we review your current website before responding. Within 24 hours we produce a completed Digital Presence Scorecard — your site scored across 8 dimensions with a total out of 100, a priority list of what is costing you clients, and clear separation between quick wins and structural problems. We send it before our first call, at no charge. The call then starts with a specific diagnosis of your situation, not a generic pitch about us.

This is not a loss leader or a sales trick. It is how we demonstrate the quality of our thinking before you have committed to anything. If you decide not to proceed, you keep the Scorecard and can act on it independently.
What we produce
Digital Presence Scorecard PDF — 8 dimensions, scored /100
Priority breakdown — what is costing you the most, in order
Quick wins separated from structural issues
20-minute discovery call — no pitch, just conversation
Honest fit assessment — we tell you if we are not the right studio
What we need from you
Your current website URL
A brief description of what your site is failing to do
20 minutes for the first call
01
Discovery & Translation
Understanding the gap before we start closing it
Week 1–2
What we do

Most agencies open a design tool when a brief arrives. We open a document and start asking questions. This stage is about fully understanding the gap between where you are and where you want to be — and applying the Translation Methodology specific to your vertical.

For law firms: we run the Client Language Audit — mapping every service to the client problem it solves. For architecture practices: we define the Project Story System framework for every portfolio piece. For consultancies: we run the Clarity Session — a structured positioning workshop that produces the brief for the entire site.

What we deliver
2hr discovery session (recorded, shared)
3–5 competitor analysis with positioning gaps identified
Ideal client profile and decision-trigger mapping
Translation Methodology output (vertical-specific)
Discovery findings document — shared via Notion
What we need from you
2 hours for the discovery session
Any existing brand guidelines or materials
Honest answers about what is and is not working
Names of 3–5 competitors you most respect
02
Strategy & Architecture
You sign off on the foundation before any design begins
Week 2–3
What we do

The strategy stage translates discovery into a concrete plan. You approve the positioning statement, messaging hierarchy, site architecture, and conversion goal for every page before we open a design tool. Most redesign failures happen because this step is skipped — the foundation is wrong and the design amplifies it. We do not let that happen.

What we deliver
Positioning statement and headline options (3 directions)
Messaging hierarchy — what each page communicates and in what order
Site map and page structure
Conversion goal defined per page
Written strategy sign-off before design begins
What we need from you
Feedback on strategy document within 48hrs
Written sign-off before design proceeds
We do not proceed to design without written approval. This is not bureaucracy — it protects both sides from expensive late-stage changes caused by a misaligned foundation.
03
Design & Development
Built to perform, not just impress
Week 3–7
What we do

Every visual decision is made in service of the strategy you have approved. We wireframe every page before designing — you see the structure and logic before the aesthetics. The design is a system, not a set of screens. We build in clean, hand-written HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No page builders. No WordPress. No bloat. Fast by default, mobile-first throughout, two rounds of design revisions built in.

What we deliver
Full wireframes (all pages) — structure before aesthetics
Custom visual design system — colour, typography, spacing
2 full rounds of design revisions
Clean hand-coded development — no page builders
Mobile-first, performance-optimised
Copywriting direction and structural editing applied
Staging environment for your review before launch
What we need from you
Copy and content (we guide the structure)
Consolidated feedback — one round of notes, not multiple streams
48hr turnaround on feedback requests
Final content approval before build begins
04
Launch & Handoff
You launch with confidence and complete ownership
Week 7–8
What we do

We do not hand over a password and disappear. You receive everything you need to understand, manage, and build on the site independently. DNS setup, hosting configuration, Google Analytics and Clarity setup, a full Loom walkthrough of every section, and a written maintenance guide. Then 30 days of post-launch support so anything that surfaces after go-live is handled immediately.

What we deliver
Pre-launch QA across all devices and browsers
DNS, hosting, and launch support
Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity setup
Loom walkthrough of every page and section
Written maintenance guide
30 days post-launch support
Full code, design files, and asset ownership transfer
What you own after handoff
All source code — no lock-in, any developer can continue
All Figma design files and exported assets
Full design system documentation
Analytics access — data is yours, not ours
Principles

The beliefs behind the process.

Not statements we put on a wall. The decisions we make every day on every project.

1
Translation before design

The biggest reason professional services websites fail is not design quality — it is that they describe what the firm does in internal language rather than the language clients use. We translate first. We design second.

2
Strategy sign-off before pixels

We do not open a design tool until you have approved the positioning, architecture, and conversion goals. Every design decision that follows has a rationale you have already agreed with. This is what prevents expensive late-stage changes.

3
Honesty over comfort

If your messaging is generic, we say so. If the brief changes scope, we tell you the cost and timeline impact. If we think a decision you are asking for is wrong, we say it and explain why. We work best with clients who want the truth.

4
You always know where we are

A shared Notion document is updated at every stage with current status, next steps, and outstanding items from you. You never have to email asking for a progress update. The project is always visible.

5
Clean code, no lock-in

Everything we build is hand-written, documented, and owned entirely by you. No proprietary platform. No subscription you have to maintain to keep your own site live. Any developer can continue from where we leave off.

6
Outcomes over aesthetics

Beautiful design that does not generate qualified leads is an expensive decoration. Every visual decision is traceable to a business outcome. We ask "why does this serve the client?" before we ask "does this look good?"

The Difference

How most agencies run projects.
How we run them.

Most agencies
Open a design tool before understanding the positioning problem
Present moodboards and ask which direction you prefer
Optimise for a site that impresses the client, not their clients
Hand over a password at the end and call it done
Build on platforms that require ongoing subscription fees
Write copy that describes services in internal language
Quell Studio
Run the Translation Methodology before touching design tools
Present strategy with rationale — every decision has a reason
Optimise for qualified leads and shorter sales cycles
Full Loom walkthrough, maintenance guide, 30 days support
Clean hand-coded files you own outright — no subscription
Apply the Client Language Audit — write for the client, not the firm
What You Keep

Everything. Permanently. No exceptions.

Some studios build dependency into the deliverable. We do not. You leave the project with complete ownership and zero obligation to return to us.

All source code

Clean, well-commented HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No proprietary framework. Any developer can pick it up and continue without needing to reverse-engineer anything.

All design files

Every Figma file, every exported asset, every image. Organised, named, and documented so a new designer can work from them immediately.

Design system docs

The colour system, typography scale, component rules, and spacing guidelines. Your team can create new pages and maintain visual consistency without involving us.

Ready to start? The first step is free.

Send us your current site. We score it, send you the Scorecard, and have a 20-minute call. No pitch, no commitment — just a clear diagnosis of where your site is losing clients.
