Biography
David Okonjo-Reid joined Mercer & Stone in 2011 after a decade inside the FCA's enforcement division, and leads the firm's Financial Regulation practice.
He advises firms and individuals through FCA and PRA enforcement investigations, drawing on a regulator's-eye view of how those investigations are actually run internally. He led the firm's response to an FCA enforcement action against a major insurer, securing a substantially reduced penalty.
Philosophy
"What do clients get wrong about regulatory investigations?"
That winning the procedural argument is the goal. Clients under investigation want the matter to conclude, their authorisation intact, and their name out of the trade press — sometimes that calls for cooperation, not confrontation.
